Every morning, subject to tide conditions, we will be offering a unique experience to sail to the Pentland Skerries or Swona.
Departing from Burwick Harbour, South Ronaldsay on a daily basis, subject to weather conditions, the trip will incorporate a tour to see birds and seals. Depending on weather conditions, we will be offering to land on Muckle Skerry or Swona for around an hour to see the Puffins and other birds close up. Tour duration is between 2½ - 3 hours.
During the long summer days (June & July) there will also be an evening trip.
The Pentland Skerries are a group of
four uninhabited islands lying in the
Pentland Firth, northeast of Duncansby
Head and 2.5 miles south of South
Ronaldsay.
By far the largest of the islands
is Muckle Skerry, home to a lighthouse.
It has over 500 breeding pairs of Puffins between April and August each year. There are also Terns, Gannets, Bonxies, Fulmars, Kitewakes, Razorbills, Guillemots, Shags and Cormorants.
The other islands are Little Skerry, Louther Skerry and Clettack Skerry. These islands have a colony of around 1,000 common and grey seals.
Tea and coffee will be provided free of charge on board. Packed lunches are available on request.
All tours will have the option of dining at the Skerries Bistro. The Bistro has a range of local food, including fresh fish and shellfish. Bookings are advisable for both lunch and evening meals. For more information please check the Skerries Bistro page.
